The T-Day “Turkey Toss”
xHamster’s American fans have more on their mind than the meal on Thanksgiving Day! An xHamster Data Center study of traffic patterns nationwide shows a general decline in traffic on Thanksgiving — save for a 13% traffic surge right before meal time.
“We call it the Turkey Toss,” says Alex Hawkins, VP of xHamster. “Just before people sit down to the big meal, a significant segment of the group sneaks off to the bathroom with their phone for a quick bit of stuffing.”
Hawkins says the traffic data is consistent throughout the US, and can be seen both nationally and on a state-to-state basis. In California, where outdoor gatherings tend to start earlier than in the more traditional East Coast, the Turkey Toss happens around 2PM. In Massachusetts, it happens around 5PM. Texas falls in the middle, with their search for pie happening around 4PM.
“The last hour before the meal tends to be a frenzy of activity, with table setting, gravy-making and other last minute preparations,” says Hawkins. “For those not involved in the actual cooking of the meal — we’re looking at you, dads and grads — it’s the perfect time to disappear without anyone noticing.”
After the Toss, traffic declines for around four hours, before beginning to climb again around 9PM, when the tryptophan begins wearing off.
Hawkins, a staunch opponent of #NoNutNovember, says we shouldn’t use this info to shame those who might want to loosen their belt a bit on the big day.
“Sex is natural and healthy,” he says. “Just make sure you have everyone wash up before they come to the table.”
